A reactive isothiocyanate. Reacts with active methylene compounds such as ethyl cyanoacetate, malononitrile or acetylacetone to give N-benzoylthioamides which are useful intermediates in heterocyclic synthesis,1 synthesis of a sterically congested ten-membered ring containing the S—S—S moiety from 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide,2 synthesis of pyrimidinyl and thiazolyl ureas and thioureas,3 preparation of a series of highly functionalized benzoylaminocarbothioylpyrrolidines from substituted pyrrolidines in excellent yield,4 and one pot synthesis of 2-(4-oxo-1,3-thiazinan-5-yl)acetic acids via a three-component reaction from primary alkylamines.5 Also involved in modification of PVE to produce a new benzoylthiourea-functionalized PVC Resin.6
