A silylating reagent that employed in generation of dialkylsilylene derivatives by reaction with 1,2-, 1,3- and 1,4-diols in the presence of 2,6-lutidine1 and preparation of unsymmetrical silaketals, silylated ethers, silanes and silanols in high yields2,3,4. Also used for attachment of sugars to siloxanes, which exhibit excellent reactivity for preparation of sugarsilane derivatives, and also permit efficient grafting to silicones via hydrosilylation.5 Reagent for the stereoselective reduction of β-hydroxyketones6 and a fluorescent OH-selective protecting group reagent7.
