Used as 1,3-bifunctional reagent in the pyrimidine to pyridine ring transformations.1 Has been applied for heterocyclization with the introduction of alkoxycarbonylmethyl group,2 acylation by diacid chlorides,3 palladium-catalyzed arylation,4 selective monoalkylation of diethyl malonate, ethyl cyanoacetate, and malononitrile,5 reaction with benzal-4-acetylanilines,6 reaction with Iodolevoglucosenone under Michael reaction conditions and reaction with aryl bromides catalyzed by palladium complexes with chelated phosphine ligands.8
