A selective reagent for preparation of pinacol boronic esters. Applied in preparation of allenyl or vinyl pinacol boronates from the Grignard or lithium reagents,1 preparation of cycloalkenyl boronic acid pinacol esters,2 synthesis of various functionalized aryl boronic esters,3,4 and synthesis of new silylpinacolboranes bearing chloro, fluoro, alkoxy, and dialkylamino groups on silicon.5 Also used as a reagent for fluorenylborolane preparation,6,7 synthesis of stable ortho-boropinacolato aryl and heteroaryl sulfonamides,8 and synthesis of chiral 3,3'-disubstituted 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-disulfonic acids.9
