A chiral resolving reagent used in chiral separation so that both enantiomers can be efficiently separated and isolated in high chemical and optical purities. Has been used in highly efficient resolution of (±) -Tramadol,1 synthesis and resolution of naphthyl-Tröger's base,2 synthesis of (±) -Tetrabenazine from the resolution of α-dihydrotetrabenazine,3 the optical resolution of racemic alkylpiperazinylphenyl compounds that include selective 5HT1D antagonists4 and the resolution of racemic albuterol5. Also used as a chiral Brønsted acid catalyst.6
