Also known as Copper (II) triflate. A powerful Lewis acid used as a catalyst in several organic reactions. Applied to catalyze the efficient addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to carbonyl compounds,1 catalyze oxidative coupling reactions,2 catalyze photocycloadditions,3 catalyze dehydration of alcohols,4 catalyzed addition of a carbamoylsilane to aldehyde imines,5 and catalyze Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation reactions of aromatics.6 Also combined with chiral ligand to catalyze asymmetric addition of diethylzinc to diphenylphosphinoyl-imines,7 and asymmetric cyclopropanations of styrene with diazo esters.8
