Abbreviated as TFAA. A reagent to introduce a trifluoromethyl group into an organic compounds. A trifluoroacetylating agent for protection of alcohols and amines, often used in trifluoacylation reactions like o-acylation, n-acylation or c-trifluoro-acylation.1 Applied as a catalyst in a smooth and efficient oxidation of isonitriles to isocyanates by sulfoxides,2 and for activating N,N'-di-Boc-substituted thiourea to thioacylate nucleophiles, such as amines, alcohols, thiols, sodium benzenethiolate, and sodium malonates.3 Also used in synthesis of [1,2,4]Triazolo[1,5- a]pyridines,4 oxidation of alkyl aryl ketones to α-hydroxyalkyl aryl ketones in good yield 5 and catalyzing a highly enantioselective rearrangement of β-amino alcohols.6 References 1.
