Also known as triflic acid, TFMS, TFSA, HOTf or TfOH.  Mainly used in research as a catalyst for esterification.1 Also applied in the following reactions: Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation, polymerization of olefins, polymerization of ethers and siloxanes, Diels-Alder reactions, hydrogenation of alkenes, deblocking reactions, and cyclizations.2,3,4,5  A deglycosylation agrent that has been used extensively to remove carbohydrate from glycoproteins, while leaving the protein backbone intact.6
