A relatively strong acid, used extensively in the optical resolution of amines e.g. Dutch resolution of racemic 4-hydroxy- and 4-fluorophenylglycine in the presence of phenylglycine.1 Has been used for generation of chiral polyaniline colloids via the electrohydrodynamic polymerization of aniline,2 preparation of optically active (camphorsulfonyl)oxaziridines,3 generation of enantiomerically pure (R,R)-(+)-2,3-diphenylpiperazine by resolution of the corresponding racemic mixture,4 synthesis of alpha-hydroxy and alpha-amino acids,5 catalyzing highly stereoselective synthesis of pseudoglycosides.6
